Busy. Change. Stress.

Three words to describe the past couple of months.

My training has been lacking and my body is falling apart. The ankle issue is back full fledged and another trip to the podiatrist is in order.

Our Double Top 100 excursion was a complete FAIL. Ok, I lie. Hanging out with some like minded TARC members was priceless. Sir Speedy Katzman brilliantly sums it up here. The only thing I'll add from my experience was that I actually saw the U-Haul stuck on the high mountain road. Joe, Josh and Anthony had already passed this point and had no idea. I had this knowledge and began using my water and nutrition sparingly.

I'm not going to dwell on the money lost and the 100 miles not run. I was able to run on some amazing trails in Northern GA with some of the coolest people I know.

On to other things...

We are in the midst of "fixing up" the house to sell at the end of this month and will call Alexandria, VA our new home come August. I have one interview lined up during my April vacation for a PE teaching job at a local high school. I am excited and scared to death at the same time. I grew up in the town I teach in, went to college 45 minutes away from where I grew up and currently live 20 minutes from my parents house. Change has never come easy for me and this process is very daunting.

During my winter break last month, my family and I were down south. I had to convince my self that I could live there. I traveled to places that I could find peace and did so with much success. I had this idea that only pavement existed down in the DC area, but I was wrong. With only a few miles drive from where we are going to live, I have access to miles and miles of trails.

This from a running standpoint has me at ease. Selling our house, finding a new job, and the actual move are just some of the stressors attacking me right now. Throw in graduate school and my head has been spinning of kilter lately!!

Enough of the venting! This is a running and not a self help blog (although I could use a hand or two!!), so my next challenge is the Bull Run Run 50 in VA in April. I figured its a WS qualifier and I'll be down in that area anyway, so I'll give it the old college try.

To house selling and ankle healing I go!!!

  1. For what is worth, I happen to know a few runners who will be happy to meet up with you in VA for some runs! Always emember, the AT runs through Shenandoah for 100 miles - a perfect setting for the Empty Square 100. Will be trying to get out to Weston some more soon to run the TARC 100 course as well (that might be some motivation to get those house projects done fast!).
